The automotive sector in Spain is undergoing a profound technological transformation, essential to maintain its competitiveness in the global automotive market. Manufacturing plants are moving towards the smart factory model, with high levels of digitalization, automation, and the integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and big data across all production stages.
However, this new paradigm comes with a critical dependency: a stable, high-quality power supply. A voltage sag, a sudden fluctuation, or even a minor disturbance in the grid can lead to severe consequences: unplanned downtime, production defects, damage to advanced machinery, and logistic delays — all of which translate into high operating costs.
DVRs to ensure operational continuity
ZGR Corporación’s Industrial division has been supplying equipment to the automotive sector for many years, gaining deep knowledge of its challenges and specific requirements. Among our clients are leading national and international car manufacturers with facilities in Spain, for whom ZGR acts as a trusted technology partner, providing tailored solutions adapted to the unique needs of each brand and each production plant.
Within this context, the ZGR Industrial team has recently installed eight 300 kVA Dynamic Voltage Restorers (DVRs) in various automotive plants in Spain. All of them have been deployed in new production lines, a clear sign of the sector’s dynamism, continuous growth, and leadership in the digital transformation of industry.
Each DVR installation was a customized solution, adapted to the operational requirements of the production environment it supports. Furthermore, installation and commissioning were carried out in close coordination with plant teams to minimize any impact on day-to-day factory operations.
The result is clear: the new production lines of several automotive brands now benefit from advanced power protection, ensuring continuity and safeguarding the investments made in highly sensitive, intelligent, and cutting-edge equipment within these facilities.
How do DVRs work?
Dynamic Voltage Restorers (DVRs) are designed to compensate for voltage sags, dips, and fluctuations within milliseconds, ensuring that critical loads always receive a stable supply.
The ZGR AVC DVR system:
- Independently compensates each phase, eliminating three-phase, two-phase, and single-phase voltage sags.
- Integrates a transformer, a bidirectional rectifier, and an inverter to manage disturbances and imbalances.
- Monitors, logs, and controls all electrical events, providing visualization on a touch-screen control panel.

This ensures that sensitive processes—such as robotic welding, automated assembly, or digital quality control—are not affected by intermittent or accidental grid disturbances.
Advantages of DVRs over traditional UPS Systems
Unlike conventional Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, ZGR’s DVRs offer clear advantages for the automotive industry:
- Full protection of critical loads against sags, dips, and overvoltages.
- Ultra-fast response and high efficiency.
- Lower maintenance costs, as no batteries are required.
- Designed for continuous, highly automated industrial processes.
- Compatibility with existing protections and remote control capability.
These advantages make them the strategic solution for automotive plants seeking continuity, safety, and efficiency in an increasingly digitalized environment.
