The power stations facilitate the commissioning of the first major solar self-consumption facility at the airport and the launch of the comprehensive renewable energy plan approved by AENA.
AENA has awarded ZIGOR Corporación, working in a joint venture consisting of CYMI – part of the ACS group – and INSAE Infraestructuras, the supply of 7.5 MW power stations for the construction and commissioning of the first major solar self-consumption facility that the airport operator will build at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.
The facility will also be one of the largest in Spain as it will generate 7.5 MW of power which is equivalent to the consumption of 5,500 homes, and it will reduce CO2 emission by almost 3,000 tonnes per year.
AENA’s commitment to energy sustainability
This initiative forms part of AENA’s focus on supplying electricity using sustainable energy and represents the first step in the implementation of the comprehensive renewable energy plan approved by the operator, enabling it to obtain 80% of its energy self-sufficiency from solar energy. The new plant will take up an area of 22 hectares at the airport and the work has already begun in various stages, so as not to interfere with the airport’s normal operations.
Technical speaking, the power stations supplied by ZIGOR are built with 1.25 MW inverters and equipped with Medium Voltage systems (Transformer and Cell), and include a cooling system and auxiliary services.
