In addition, the ZGR–UPV Chair will increase its presence in UPV’s main talent-oriented programs, such as the Employment Forum and the QUÉDATE initiative—two essential platforms for students to learn first-hand about the professional opportunities offered by ZGR, and for the company to identify high-potential profiles in the field of industrial and energy engineering.
Advanced technological projects developed this year
During the 2024–2025 academic year, three second-year students from the Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering were selected from eight applicants to develop innovation projects at ZGR’s center in Valencia.
Their work addressed essential areas for the advancement of the electrical industry: next-generation transformers, advanced control systems, and energy converters for solar power plants. These research lines—each of them strategic for the design of efficient electrical infrastructures—have enabled students to face real technical challenges in a high-level industrial environment.
This direct exposure to applied engineering strengthens skills that are difficult to acquire solely in laboratories or classrooms, such as prototype validation, electronic integration in demanding industrial environments, and the communication of results within multidisciplinary teams.
A real bridge between university and industry
Since its creation in 2021, the ZGR–UPV Chair in Power Electronics has provided hands-on training to seven students, establishing itself as a gateway to the sector for young engineers with a strong technological vocation and the drive to develop their careers in industry.
The impact of the program is tangible: three of the four participants from the previous academic year were hired by ZGR on permanent contracts, demonstrating both the effectiveness of the model and the company’s commitment to supporting the professional growth of young talent.
For ZGR, this program represents far more than a training initiative. It is a strategic investment to strengthen its innovation ecosystem, expand its research capabilities in power electronics, and anticipate the needs of a sector undergoing a full-scale energy transformation.
ZGR Chair: Seven Students Trained at the Technological Cutting Edge
ZGR Corporación’s vision: technology, industry, and talent
Íñigo Segura, CEO of ZGR Corporación, summarizes the spirit of the Chair clearly:
“This Chair brings academic researchers closer to the business environment and enables the joint development of the technology that lies at the heart of the energy transition: power electronics. ZGR intends to continue supporting the career development of students participating in this Chair, offering high-quality employment opportunities.”
Power electronics is, indeed, one of the most critical technological areas for the future of the global energy system. Its evolution directly affects key aspects such as the efficiency of solar inverters, the storage capacity of high-power battery systems, the power quality that ensures industrial processes operate free from electrical disturbances, and the stability and resilience of electrical infrastructures as large-scale renewable energy adoption accelerates.
Within this context, the ZGR–UPV Chair in Power Electronics helps accelerate the development of new solutions, incorporate highly qualified talent, and reinforce ZGR’s position along the innovation chain that links research, design, industrialization, and deployment of advanced electrical and electronic equipment.
ZGR’s commitment to innovation
ZGR’s innovation center in Valencia, operational since 2021, has continued to grow steadily. The Chair has become a key mechanism for connecting top UPV students with the projects that the company develops for national and international markets. This direct link between university, industry, and technology contributes to strengthening the industrial ecosystem and preparing future engineers to meet the new challenges of the ongoing energy transition.
