Mercadona is a distribution company that operates in the supermarket sector. Its goal is to meet the food, personal hygiene, home and pet care needs of its customers. Its capital is 100% Spanish and family-owned.
At the end of 2020, the company had 1,641 establishments, including 20 in Portugal, with an average surface area of between 1,300 and 1,500 square metres and 95,000 employees. Its turnover in 2020 amounted to approximately €27 billion. Approximately 5.5 million households shop in its establishments.
