Televisa San Ángel, Cuidad de México
Process description
Grupo Televisa is a Mexican communication media conglomerate, that produces, transmits and distributes visual, musical and theatrical material through its various subsidiaries.
The Problem
The production of the different television programmes involves the handling of robotised and smart lights, this means that the programme complies with world quality standards.
These lights are used from 0% to 100% in an instant which represents an operating current of up to 1200 A, this performance cannot be supported by a traditional UPS of the online double conversion type.
During live television programmes, the energy supply must be from a reliable and continuous source such as a large capacity generator set, involving an extra expense on fuel and maintenance.
The losses due to not having a lighting system operating for 100% of the time during the production are considerable.
The Solution
To prevent voltage dips and to be able to handle high instantaneous currents at a voltage of 220 VAC, a 400 KVA SEPEC device was implemented, which satisfied all the energy backup and quality needs.
Currently the television programmes that are produced in the studios and that are protected by the SEPEC equipment do not use a generator set as a source of power thus saving all the costs that the generator requires, in addition a saving is obtained in the operating costs that any double conversion UPS would have involved.
