SILVALAC: PLASTICS TRANSFORMATION COMPANY
Process description
Silvalac S.A. is a company that belongs to the Grupo Armando Álvarez, it was founded in 1969 and since then has been in a constant state of evolution in order to maintain its leadership in the polyethylene film packaging sector.
With more than 60,000 TM total production capacity, the factory located in Els Monjos del Penedes is an example of its continuous technological renovation policy in its facilities.
Silvalac has selected the ZIGOR SEPEC to obtain total immunity of the processes from supply quality problems.
The Problem
The continuous manufacturing process of the polyethylene film rolls is very sensitive to power fluctuations and cuts, which can stop this process and cause significant losses.
The most critical part in the manufacturing process is when the polyethylene is hot and the plastic “balloon” is lifted several metres in height by air convection while it cools before the folding process.
If a power cut occurs at this moment, the hot plastic balloon falls on top of the ejector nozzles, which blocks them when it cools.
The Solution
After having a 400 KVA SEPEC installed for more than a year on the main line of the old factory, in the electrical design of the new factory at Els Monjos del Penedés, which started production in 2007, the polyethylene film manufacturing lines were protected with ten 600 KVA SEPECs and one 400 KVA SEPEC.
As a result, these manufacturing processes are not interrupted by voltage dips or by electricity supply cuts.
Description of the installed system Currently, Silvalac has a total of 11 devices installed in its factories, in the following powers:
600 KVA SEPEC: 10 units
400 KVA SEPEC: 1 unit
