MERCADONA: LOGISTICS CENTRES AT FULL CAPACITY
Process description
Mercadona is a distribution company, in the supermarket sector and is present in 46 provinces of 15 autonomous communities in Spain. It has 1414 supermarkets with an average surface area of between 1300 and 1500 square meters.
The logistics structure of Mercadona plays a key role in the development of the business, with regional logistics centres that supply the products required by the supermarkets on a daily basis.
In its most critical installations as regards electricity supply quality, Mercadona has installed nearly 39 MVA of immunisation systems based on the ZIGOR Industrial UPS range, SEPEC
The problem
In order to be competitive in the distribution market, Mercadona, among many other actions, invests in high-technology and has created fully automated logistics centres, which optimise the handling of products from when the material arrives from its suppliers until the prepared order leaves for each supermarket.
This entire process is performed by means of automatic warehouses, stacker cranes, robots and conveyor belts, which must operate in perfect synchronisation and that work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To guarantee the electricity supply, it has has a generator set system that supplies all the systems in the event of an electricity supply failure. However, the electricity supply must also be guaranteed during start-up and shut-down times to prevent failures in the processes.
The solution
Mercadona is well aware that its operations cannot stop and, as well as investing in Generator Sets and Transformer Stations, it has placed its trust in ZIGOR’s SEPEC Industrial UPS range, to ensure that its customers always receive the products they need as it can operate completely independently from the electricity companies, should this be necessary.

800 KVA SEPEC: 1 unit
600 KVA SEPEC: 54 units
400 KVA SEPEC: 12 units
200 KVA SEPEC: 4 units
